Super Deluxe Clambake: A Healthy And Fun Party Alternative

by Michael Chapman

The clambake has existed for centuries. Native Americans held the first clambakes near New England, which gives us the name New England Clambakes. Since then, they have been a popular tradition for family parties, celebrations, and other occasions. Spring has arrived - why not try one?

Clambakes were initially prepared in a pit dug in the dirt. Native Americans originally made a huge fire in the pit to cook the assorted seafood and vegetables. Stones were positioned at the bottom of the pit to absorb the heat. Layers of corn husks were placed on top of the stones. When the fire was finally reduced to burning ash and embers, they would then put the fresh seafood and vegetables on the very hot stones, separating the layers with fresh seaweed.

You will want to order fresh shellfish to ensure a healthy and fun clambake. Traditionally, there are two kinds of clambake orders, known as the standard clambake and the super deluxe clambake. The standard clambake usually consists of lobster, clams, chowder, and supplies. For more variety, the super deluxe clambake usually also has mussels, shrimp, and some other form of shellfish.

Most of the time, depending on the size of the gathering, people having a true clambake will go with a super deluxe clambake. The reason being that the added shellfish appeals to a wider section of party guests and they feed more people. That way everyone gets something that they can enjoy out of the clambake.

Modern clambakes do not use these old fashioned cooking methods. Nowadays, most people use a grill, stove, or possibly a fire pit. This makes clambakes ideal for outdoor parties, and in particular for camping outings. They're convenient and are easy to clean up after to boot.

Fresh food, as we all know, is much healthier than processed food, so a healthy atmosphere for you and your party is ensured with a clambake. Since shellfish and other seafood are so very healthy, it also benefits by being fresh. We should remember that clambakes are healthy for us as well as being the epitome of fun and atmosphere.

This spring look into throwing a Classic American Clambake for your friends and family. They are a healthy alternative to fast food and provide a great setting for a patio adventure. The concept of the clambake is sure to intrigue many guests and will spark many new conversations across the span of the party.
