Head Lice Treatment And Why It's Important

by jason ciment

You need to start treatment immediately if you discover lice on yourself or anyone in your family. The treatment process will involve a close inspection of anyone you think may have caught the lice, as well as everyone else who has been in close contact. Lice can move from person to person very quickly, and the adult lice may remain invisible while they are moving from one host to another.

Because body lice and head lice are highly contagious, it is vital to gather lice information quickly and take the proper steps to getting rid of the problem. Head lice treatment starts with a thorough washing of all bedding materials, including sheets, pillowcases and blankets in very hot, sudsy water. Stuffed animals and throw-pillows should be washed or dry cleaned immediately. Any type of hair accessory should be disinfected in ammonia or rubbing alcohol. Some common types of these products are brushes, combs and barrettes.

While completing this task, all persons with lice should be prescribed with a topical shampoo or cream to treat their hair and/or body with. Some people choose to see a doctor, though many over-the-counter remedies are available at your local drug store. Head lice treatment is, while exhausting, fairly simple. After using the specified shampoo, you should wait a day or two before washing your hair again. Follow the directions on the packaging carefully and continue to inspect the heads of those carrying lice to make sure they have disappeared.

Lice can take some time to completely eradicate. Head and body lice are very common, though, and you shouldn't feel embarrassed or ashamed that you have contracted lice. It is particularly common in young children, especially those at school, as they are likely to share hats or hair accessories, and then bring lice home.

Wash everything, vacuum the carpets, disinfect materials that may carry the eggs. If the lice still doesn't go away within a few weeks, you should again start over with your head lice treatment. Take an appointment to see a doctor. Your doctor may be able to prescribe a stronger medicine to kill the remaining lice eggs.

Most of all, stay positive! Lice are not an indicator of the cleanliness of your family. Lice have always affected people across a wide range of backgrounds. If you want to avoid lice, there are preventative measures you take, such as not sharing bedding or hair accessories.

If detected, head lice treatment should begin immediately. Lice spread easily from head to head with out being detected. Begin lice treatment by washing blankets, sheets and pillowcases, and carpets in very hot and soapy water. Disinfect all hair accessories, like brushes, hair clips and combs using ammonia or alcohol. Hairs should be washed with topical shampoo or cream. If the problem is acute, take an appointment to see a doctor. Precautions like avoiding sharing hair products, accessories and bedding are necessary. The same applies to body lice as well and spreading lice information is as much a part of preventing the menace from spreading.
